Webinar Series: Issues in Mental Health

Evaluating a Service Provider

When seeking help from a mental health service provider, it’s easy to assume that their degree and licensure—or supervision by a licensed professional—guarantee both competence and effectiveness in providing care. But even if they are a Christian, they will be influenced by the  worldviews of their education and training from the secular world.

This session will provide discernment needed to evaluate a therapist’s approach, worldview, and methods of care. Participants will learn how to ask thoughtful questions, recognize red flags, and assess whether a therapist’s practices align with Scripture.  The goal is that you will be better prepared to make informed decisions when selecting or recommending a mental health professional.

Mental Disorder Diagnosis

In 2021, it was estimated that more than one in five adults in the US and one in eight people worldwide received a mental disorder diagnosis. Another large-scale study concluded that half of the global population will be diagnosed with a mental health disorder at some point in life.

While it is common to view these diagnoses as precise, biomedical conditions, this session will explore their limitations from both scientific and biblical perspectives. Participants will gain greater confidence in how the Gospel and Scripture provide true help and hope to the struggles that these diagnoses attempt to describe.
