Familial Sex Trafficking: Characteristics and Systemic Challenges (2025)

This mixed-methods study explores the underreported scope and systemic challenges of familial sex trafficking (FST) to improve the identification and prosecution of minors exploited by their caregivers. By surveying 68 justice professionals and analyzing 3,505 confirmed trafficking cases, the researchers combined quantitative data with qualitative interviews to uncover the complexities of intra-familial abuse and systemic barriers to justice.
